Morning routine for sun protection: How to avoid getting burned not only in summer
Share
The sun is a great source of vitamin D and good mood, but it is also the biggest external stressor that accelerates skin aging day after day. Unprotected exposure to the sun can lead to age spots, faster wrinkles, and skin cancer.
In summer, when the UV index is at its highest, sun protection literally starts right after waking up (or with the first rays of the sun). Below you will find a practical guide to what a proper summer morning routine should look like . So that you can provide your skin with maximum nutrients, comfort and, most importantly, protection against UV radiation. – and yet they didn't waste valuable time in the morning.
Morning routine under 3 minutes
1. 😶🌫️ Gentle cleansing (60-90 sec)
During the night, sweat, sebum and evening care residues accumulate on the surface of the skin . Therefore, especially in the sweaty summer, you may feel that simply rinsing your skin with water is not enough. In this case, reach for a non-aggressive gel or creamy foam without sulfates. Warm (not hot) water and circular movements with your fingers are enough. Gentle cleansing will keep the lipids in the skin - you will appreciate this when you apply SPF, because it adheres to the skin better.
2. 🛡️ Antioxidant Serum: Invisible Shield (optional) (10-20 sec)
Serum is not a must in your routine. But it can be a good helper in the fight against free radicals - a byproduct of UV rays. Serum with vitamin C, ferulic acid or resveratrol will neutralize them before they damage your collagen in your skin. Apply 3-4 drops to slightly damp skin and wait half a minute. In addition, antioxidants increase the effectiveness of SPF by tens of percent.
3. 🌊 Light hydration (optional) (10 sec + 30 sec)
Combination and oily skin will appreciate gel-creams with hyaluronic acid (you can find it in our basic beauty routine , for example ), while dry skin is better suited to thicker creams and emulsions. The goal is not to create a thick film, but to provide hydration and "smooth out" the surface so that the SPF sits evenly on the face and the sunscreen doesn't clump under your makeup.
On hot summer days, do you feel like you're slapping on too much and your skin is sweating? Feel free to skip this step. Locking in moisture is a job your SPF will take over.
4. ☀️ SPF: the heart of the whole routine (10-20 s)
SPF is the most important step in your morning routine. If you've done step 3, wait a moment for your moisturizer to absorb before applying SPF.
To make sure you've chosen the right SPF, let's take a quick look at it:

What does the UVA/UVB label mean?
- UVA (A = Aging ) - UV rays that penetrate deep into the skin. They destroy collagen and elastin.
- UVB (B = Burning ) - This type of rays causes burns and direct DNA damage.
Look for broad-spectrum or PA++++ on the SPF , which guarantees protection against both types of UV rays.
What SPF should I choose?
In the summer, reach for at least SPF 30, ideally SPF 50. If you use acids or retinoids in your routine, forget about 30 and only reach for SPF 50+.
If you spend time by the water or in the mountains, choose a mineral fluid with zinc oxide, which also reflects infrared radiation. And if you want to avoid a “white mask on your face,” avoid mineral SPF with zinc and choose a different type of SPF (so-called chemical SPF).
Textures for hot days
Water-based fluids, gels with delicate essential oils or light creams with dry-touch technology. They don't shine, don't stick to bangs and stay on like a primer under makeup.
5. 💄Layering your makeup (if you use it)
- Always apply SPF first. Wait until it dries before continuing with makeup (or primer).
- Lightly tap in the concealer and BB cream with your fingers or a sponge to avoid damaging the SPF protective film.
- Consider any powder with SPF only as a bonus , not full sun protection . It's great except for reapplying SPF throughout the day. Spray SPF is just as good for reapplication.
- Bonus: Set with a fine hydrating mist.
Remember that UV protection is not just about the number on the tube. It will be affected by altitude, reflection from water or sand, and any photosensitizing medications you may be taking.
